If yes : Say thanks Mum!!!!! Keep it, wear it not around your friend.
It was a gift, it was for sale - you’re not copying her.
If no: Say thanks Mum!!!! Ask her if she would mind if you exchanged it for something else because even though you love it, you don’t want to fall out with your friend.
Personally, I’d keep it. I’d wear it and enjoy it. Tell your friend that you can see why they became popular - they’re so gorgeous! (Plus she clearly has excellent taste).
